Value Of Information In Gram Swaraj

In Rafiqganj Panchayat there was a conflict on the issue of selection of the Treasurer of the Gram Sabha. This conflict emerged from the con clarity of the educational criteria and the myths about the post of the treasurer of the Gram Sabh. There were two candidates for the post of the treasurers of the Gram Sabha, one from the side of the ruling Sarpanch and another from the opposite party.

Due to these conflicts and lack of proper information, around 8-10 people came to the Soochna Kendra of the Sehore field office of Samarthan! Coincidentally a training on Gram Swaraj was going on at that time. These people attended the training and got clarifications on the issue that, there was no need of 10th pass educational qualification for the selection of the post of the Treasurer, and a literate person can contest for the post. In addition to it the roles and responsibilities of the team in which all the myths of financial malpractice of money was clarified and a feeling of cooperation and service for the village was instilled among the opposing parties.

Self definition of their own work by the Infrastructure Committees:-
In the Rafiqganj Gram sabha of the district Sehore a training was organized for the Village Committees the and frequent visits were made by the Cluster level workers of the respective village. Due to the efforts made by the cluster level worker of the particular Gram Sabha the meetings of the Village committees have started organizing on a regular basis and the Committees have started maintaining their register.

In the particular Village there was a house, which was in a bad condition due to the house being abandoned by the owner of the house. The house was nearby a school ,hence the villagers felt that the dilapidated house would be risky for the school going students as it was on a verge of collapsing down.

The members of the Infrastructure committees took charge of the situation and on the basis of the felt need they decided to keep the matter in front of the gram sabha that such kind of abandoned villages should be demolished. At last the proposal was accepted by the Gram sabha and the house was demolished with the efforts made bt the Infrastructure committee.
