Access to information through Urban Information Centres
The poor need to exercise their rights, however, proper information and guidance hinder them to demand their entitlements. The information centres set up in different towns have been able to contribute the following :
- Below Poverty Line survey is an issue troubling the poor habitants of the intervened urban centers. The Resource center made available the prepared BPL list to the people and facilitated the process of filing the appeals, if they are not satisfied with their marks of BPL survey. Approximately 400 appeals have been filed and cases have been favorably decided.
- Approximately one thousand ration cards, that were withheld with the department were distributed with the intervention in different locations. Many more legitimate beneficiaries are linked to the pertinent schemes like maternity benefit scheme, Anttodaya scheme etc.
- Self help groups of women were formed in 6 towns of M.P. and twelve of such groups have been linked to the bank for loaning.
- Labor net, an initiative is shaping up to link the unskilled to social security measure on one side and to the market on the other. In all the urban centre the link is being established to register construction sector labor with the Construction Sector Labor Welfare Board established by the Govt. of M.P.
- Monitoring of the school functioning is being undertaken by the women SHGs in most of the towns. They are monitoring the attendance of teachers, distribution of Mid-day meals and quality of teaching.
- Informal schools for the school drop outs was started with community initiatives in Ajaygarh town. The success of the school has prompted the opening of many more such schools. Currently 5 such schools have been started in Ajaygarh.
