Panchayat Raj Jagrukta Abhiyan

During the Pre-Election Voters’ Awareness Campaign (PEVAC) 2005, a need to orient the newly elected representatives was felt by the stakeholders. The concept was thought and revisited in the year 2005 and 2006 after the joint efforts within PEVAC. It came up that on April 2006 the event Panchayat Raj Jagrukta Abhiyan (PRJA) was got materialised.

The PRJA was concentised to start off in September – November 2006. A Training of Trainers (ToT) of the Master Trainers was organised on the concept and theme of Panchayats and Panchayati Raj in Chattisgarh. Other upcoming issues discussed in the training were related to National Rural Employment Guarantee Program, Right to Information etc.

The actual trainings were later scheduled in the TOT to start off from 6th Oct 2006. Samarthan, Chattisgarh conducted this event in one of the intervened district. These villages within the block level were further categorised into Panchayat level cluster. Ten team of Mster Trainers were trained to impart the training. Assuming certain inconsistencies during the period of training seven master trainers were held as reserve, which were aspired to fill up the vacuum in any venue. The training calendar was framed and shared with the Zila Panchayat CEOs prior to the commencement of the training at the Panchayat level.

Teaching and learning process is dynamic and requires constant innovation. People friendly and child centered methods in terms of pedagogy and instructional materials play vital roles in creating a learning environment. IRI programme was such an intervention directed at creating and consolidating the necessary enabling mechanisms in the direction. Formative evaluation is the heart and soul of the IRI instructional design process and ensures that participation and learning actually takes place. Samarthan, Chattisgarh took up the assignment of constant monitoring of the program through Formative Evaluation. Formative evaluation of 120 lessons of Interactive radio instruction (IRI) programme was carried out in the intervened blocks of Chattisgarh.

The objective of Dot.Edu/T4 initiatives was to provide teachers with in-service training for both content enhancement and professional development and to provide instruction in English using a multichannel strategy i.e., via interactive radio programs as well as CD and print-based materials. The broad objective of formative evaluation was to assess the strengths and weakness of instruction in its formative stages for the purpose of improving its appeal and learning outcome.

In the view of swift changing of the development environment, it becomes pertinent that the capacities of the staffs are updated. During last year Samarthan, Chattisgarh staffs have been sent to various trainings and workshops- ISABS, ASPEAB (leadership development, Philippines) Women Power Connect etc.
