Quitting the habits of Gutka and Alcohol

Suresh Jatav is 24 years old. He is the youth facilitator for the village. He himself was habituated to taking Gutka and spent a small sum of money regularly on the product. He knew that it was harmful but it did not worry him. During the training he witnessed a play on the harmful effects of Gutka and the depiction affected him greatly. He took a decision to stop it and influenced his friends to do the same. Earlier he used to spend Rs50 per week which he now uses to buy magazines and books for a small library run by him.  His friends have also given up the habit.

Kamlesh Jatav is 16 years old. He has stopped his studies and started working in construction work. His fellow workers put pressure on him to drink with them every Sunday and he began drinking. During this period he came into contact with the boys group where the boys began to influence him to change his ways by pointing out the harmful effects of alcohol. The biggest motivation came from the fact that drinking is frowned upon in the Jatav community and parents of brides do not view a prospective bridegroom who is known to be a drunkard with favour. Kamlesh agreed to give up the habit. His conduct was monitored for a few Sundays till it became clear that he was really serious about his intent. He has now given up the habit.
