Training of Trainers on Village Institution Strengthening,
23-27 November, 2009

The concept of development has taken a different shape over the past dacade and there are different types of initiatives being taken up in the name of people’s participation, women empowerment, dalit empowerment etc. These kinds of efforts focus mainly on promoting Community Based Organizations and village level institutions. Some of these institutions are formal institutions like the Village Development Committee, the Village Construction Committee etc while the others are informal groups like the Bhajan Mandalies, SHGs, Youth groups etc. Community Based Organization (CBOs) plays an important and relevant role in providing services at the local level. Strong and functional community institutions can ensure that the development resources are properly utilised and can ensure the effectiveness of the work that it does.

Samarthan recently organised a Training of Trainers for 40 Master Trainers from the Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihood Project (MPRLP) on Village Institution Strengthening. The training focused on the following key issues with respect to village institution strengthening.

    • Understanding on Community Based Organisation and Village Level Institutions
    • Structure of different Village Level Institutions
    • Internal Processess of a Community Based Organisation
    • Leadership, Communication and Decision Making
    • Conflict Management in a Community Based Organisation
