Citizen’s manifesto for forthcoming municipal elections Bhopal,

The Resident Welfare Associations of ward 49 (Old 51), gathered on this Sunday evening i.e:  01st Nov, 2009 to determine the development agenda of their ward as a citizen’s manifesto for the forthcoming municipal elections.  The representatives developed a ten point charter of demands to pursue with the potential candidates as ward councilors in the forthcoming municipal elections. The charter included issues of relocation of shops on the Nallah near 11 No. bus stop, removal of hoardings and better management of space around Durga Das Chauraha for easement of traffic, improvement of parks and a railway overbridge or underbridge near Ahmedpur for easy assess in the ward.

The representatives of Resident Welfare Association (RWA) decided that potential candidates will be invited to share their vision of development and response on the proposed manifesto of the citizens.  The RWA will initiate a voter awareness campaign for effective polling.  The meeting was facilitated by Samarthan, an NGO working on urban governance in M.P and representatives of Avantika Society, Ashoka Society, SBI Colony, Mahatma Gandhi Society, Kshetriya Vikas evam jan kalian samiti, Madhavpuri housing board nivasi kalian society were present in the meeting.

Ten point charter of demand in citizen’s manifesto

  1. Relocation or reorganization of shops established on nallah around 11 No. bus stop with :
    1. Provision of parking space
    2. Cleaning arrangement of nallah
    3. Solid waste management of commercial waste
  2. Widening of road and space management near Durga Das Chauraha, removing encroachment and hoardings so that traffic jams near that area can be reduced.
  3. Provision of an underbridge or overbridge around Ahmedupur/ near Hi-tech city to provide easy access in the ward much before the Habibganj underbridge/ crossing.
  4. Fencing of all designated parks and formal arrangements with RWA for maintenance of parks
  5. Complete ban on the conversion/ illegal construction on the green belt area
  6. Comprehensive planning of sewerage system based on current and projected population with improved solid waste and rain water drainage system.
  7. Repair of broken water pipelines and expansion of pipeline in the left out area of the ward under project Uday.
  8. Repair of roads between Hanuman Mandir and 11 No. bus stop as the condition of the road is extremely bad.
  9. Determine guidelines for approval of hostels/ hotels or other commercial activities so that nuisance near the residential area can be minimized.

Strict follow-up on the guidelines for the shops selling narcotic items like bhang, tobacco and gutkha.  Such shops should be removed which are near the schools/ colleges.
