Citizen’s Election Manifesto
During the Bhopal municipal elections held in February 2010, contestants of all major political parties were invited by the citizens groups to put forward their agendas. The group prepared ten point Citizens’ Manifesto for the contestants.

- Relocation or reorganization of shops established on nallah around 11 No. bus stop with
- Provision of parking space, cleaning arrangement of nallah, Solid waste management of commercial waste
- Widening of road and space management near Durga Das Chauraha removing encroachment and hoardings so that traffic jams near that area can be reduced.
- Provision of an under- bridge or over-bridge around Ahmedupur/ near Hi-tech city to provide easy access in the ward much before the Habibganj underbridge/ crossing.
- Fencing of all designated parks and formal arrangements with RWA for maintenance of parks
- Complete ban on the conversion/ illegal construction on the green belt area
- Comprehensive planning of sewerage system based on current and projected population with improved solid waste and rain water drainage system.
- Repair of broken water pipelines and expansion of pipeline in the left out area of the ward under project Uday.
- Repair of roads between Hanuman Mandir and 11 No. bus stop as the condition of the road is extremely bad.
- Determine guidelines for approval of hostels/ hotels or other commercial activities so that nuisance near the residential area can be minimized.
- Strict follow-up on the guidelines for the shops selling narcotic items like bhang, tobacco and gutka. Such shops should be removed which are near the schools/ colleges.
An Interactive meeting was organized between the newly elected Ward Councilor and the citizens in the intervened area to facilitate interaction over the Ward councilor’s plan for the next five years and the citizens’ issues.
Engagement with the State
Based on the experiences of participatory planning process in Sehore and Bhopal, a strategy was designed with State Planning Commission to come up with a clear cut mandate for urban issues in District Planning Process. The favorable response of the State planning commission was then used to conduct training of the ULBs in the district to prepare with the urban plan to integrate ULB formally in the District Plan. This planning process has been taken up in five districts (Chatarpur, Mandla, Satna, Khargon and Raigarh), with the State Planning Commission.
